This Screwed-Up House - Back to Introduction.

This was actually the very first room we started on, way back in the summer of 2005 even before we knew we'd be moving in here. It was a high priority emergency because there was a huge gaping hole in the wall that led to the outside and allowed all sorts of wildlife in.
We ended up installing all new drywall, and then coating it with heavy plaster. Originally, this bathroom had an Arctic theme, so we did the plaster to resemble snow formations. But once the decision to move was made much later on, this bathroom was designated to become Garith's, and he wanted a black and red bathroom.

The bathroom is very small, so it is difficult to
photograph. When we first started painting, we used a red-tinted primer which resembled painting the walls with tomato soup. Once the main coat went on, the room began to resemble more of an autopsy. I've been saying that we should have put in air bladders beneath the paint in order to get the room to "breathe". I put in black tile above the shower, and then did the black rock-formation look on the inside of the shower. |
| The shower itself was a nightmare. It had previously been
used to store more of those damned molds, and we discovered that the floor
had sunk a bit so settled water could not reach the drain. After re-pouring the concrete and re-tiling the floor, we have managed to move the problem about six inches. But at least the rubber-coated plaster on the walls seems to be holding up very well. Right now, this is the only bathroom that delivers a hot shower on demand (being the closest to the water heater.)

This is another problem area we're working on. The sole window was located right above the sink, making it inconvenient for shaving and whatnot. So we literally boarded up the window and hung a large antique mirror over it. Of course, the window is larger than the mirror. So I'm still searching for a better alternative. In the mirror, you can see the other little problem. This bathroom is not only missing a door, but also a door frame. Right now I have a curtain hanging for privacy. And the toilet doesn't work.
But at least we can get a hot shower. |
